The Monterey Chapter of the Forest Fire Lookout Association (FFLA-MRY) is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to restoring, maintaining and staffing historic fire lookouts in Monterey County. In 2019 volunteers restored the Chews Ridge Lookout.  Since its return to service, dozens of trained volunteer fire lookouts have staffed the tower.  Our volunteers are bringing early smoke detection capability back to the Ventana Wilderness in the Los Padres National Forest.

PROTECT THE LOOKOUT THAT PROTECTS US

We Need Your Help to Raise $20,000 to Preserve Chews Ridge Lookout

Learn more about our campaign to keep the tower standing strong for seasons to come

In the six years (and six winters) since the 2019 volunteer led restoration of the Chews Ridge Lookout, the lookout’s roof has taken a beating. Whole sections were torn off by wind, and leaks are threatening the interior. We’ve patched what we can, but now it’s time for a full roof replacement.

Help us preserve this iconic tower and the wildfire protection it provides for thousands of acres of public land.
