We started first shift of season at 9:00 am on 10 May 2022.
Tassajara Rd. in good condition – drive from gate to tower quite rough.
Tower nicely stocked and ready for shift thanks to Jess and Martha!
Air temperature 34 degrees F, wind calm. Trees and shrubs frosted.
CAUTION: top steps to tower iced and VERY slippery in morning.
NW wind came up by 10 am and persisted through the day at 10 – 15 mph. Wind made it cold on catwalk and sucked heat out of cab.
Morning line up started just after 9:30 am. LP Comms shut down at 6:00 pm.
Radios working well, although both required multiple charges during the day.
Cold temperatures and NW wind (10 – 15 mph) persisted through 11 May 2022,
All systems working well in tower.
A Forest Service crew from Shasta-Trinity NF visited the tower in late morning and then took a tour of MIRA.
In late afternoon, three people from MIRA came by but did not come up into tower. Apparently, MIRA is in process of hiring a new caretaker.
