Road up uneventful. Numerous slides on Carmel Valley Rd and on Tassajara Rd. First snow on the road was after the cattle guard. Road was rocky due to the dirt having been washed off the rocks. Snow made the road slippery in several places even with 4WD. Gate was locked and the tower secure. No visible damage on the outside. Inside the lookout there was water from a roof leak. The furniture was okay due to the plastic covering the furniture. The water was cleaned up and numerous dead and live flies in the lookout were cleaned up. Looked but didn’t find any reason for the number of flies in the lookout. Two of the shutter chains needed repair.
While at the lookout, Steve from MIRA came by on a hike with his dog. He advises that he walks from the observatory to the lookout several times a week. I obtained his contact info as a good resource for the exterior of the lookout.
Tom (Potential new member for next season) accompanied me to the lookout.
Left the lookout to head downhill before the road could freeze.
Took several photos. Will try to upload them.
